The subtlety of asian art comes alive when properly photographed. However, this cover for the National Advanced Systems Alternative is actually a backup to a previous idea.

Shots done on black plexiglass require a studio that rivals the standards of a semiconductor clean room. The day of this shot we just couldnt beat the dust. The solution was to float the finely carved Korean ink dish several feet over the plex. This threw the dust out of focus and by cleaverly placing the lights we created the feeling that the dish was still sitting on the highly polished surface.
